Antonio Ligabue: The difficult art of a painter without rules
Until October 26, 2008, the prestigious Palazzo Reale has the honor of hosting the exhibit of the painter and artist, Antonio Ligabue: The difficult art of a painter without rules; the largest retrospective ever made dedicated to the artist.
Over 250 works including 200 oil paintings, 11 previously unseen, drawings, sculptures and some of the artist's belongings including his red motorcycle. The exhibit is the most complete ever assembled, with the objective of providing a comprehensive illustration of the brilliant art of a unique expressionist artist in the genre with a fascinating biography that is indissolubly related to the art of his time.
With these masterpieces at the Palazzo Reale, new aspects of the controversial life of the great Antonio Ligabue are highlighted as they relate to his artistic production and the poetry which colors his works: a fascinating study based on a close study of his self portraits (30 of which on display at the exhibit).
Often compared to Van Gogh, Ligabue is also presented through the films by director Raffaele Andreassi where the artist narrates his vulnerability with extraordinary humanity.
